Overview

North Dakota State University’s Extension Service approached Gnomon Technology to modernize CHAPS, a herd management software designed for beef cattle producers. The goal was to create a flexible, web-based platform that would provide detailed reports on individual animals’ performance and pedigree, helping producers make informed breeding and management decisions. Key tools like a breeding calculator and feed intake calculator were also part of the original system, aimed at optimizing herd productivity.

Challenge

The existing system was outdated, with a backend that limited flexibility and a user interface that needed improvement to meet modern usability standards. Our task was to update the backend architecture and redesign the user experience to be more intuitive and visually engaging while preserving the accuracy and effectiveness of the core calculations.

We prioritized delivering clear, compelling reports enhanced with updated visuals and charts that made critical data easy to understand and act upon. Our developers collaborated to ensure the software’s backend was robust and flexible enough to handle future updates, while the front end was redesigned for ease of use and accessibility.
